Hi Glenda.
I am convinced, but haven't yet found the proof, that Rachel was a LARGENT not SARGENT.
Her parents probably were Melson Largent and Oney Pollard.
Melson and his son William are listed in the 1830 census in Jefferson County, Indiana on page 84, lines 1 and 2 respectively.
David McCasland (sic) is on the same page, line 26.
There are NO Sargents listed there in that year so the probability of Rachel being a Sargent is in my opinion extremely limited.
As you know, David and Rachel were born in Kentucky.
So was William Largent. Melson, born abt 1782 in Virginia, was a son of a man I call {Shelby} William Largent. Melson migrated from Shelby County, Kentucky to Clark/Jefferson County, Indiana about 1809. I can't help but wonder if the McCaslins were also from the Shelby Co., Kentucky area.
I am trying to get confirmation from the Clerk's Office in Jefferson County concerning the correct surname of Rachel and if I do will send it on to you.
Yours
Randy Largent
