Just to complicate things further, Wilmer Kerns lists a Jeremiah Sargent as being born abt. 1742, from DAR records in the library in Wash. D.C. stating that he was 77 in 1819, living in Frederick Co. Va. Kerns says this Jeremiah, the veteran of the Rev. War, was a son of John and Rachel Sargent (Largent). See p. 237, Kerns, Historical Records of Old Frederick and Hampshire Cos. VA., revised ed.
I have also read the Hopewell Friends listings showing that a John "Sarjen" moved from Pa. Goshen meeting to Hopewell in 1772 and that Jeremiah was disowned for serving in the military in 1776. (see p. 410 and 501 of vol. 2, Hopewell Friends History).
I have determined that my James Sargent, b. abt. 1800, and his children are probably NOT descended from the other John Sargent/Largent line described in O'Dell and Kerns), so am wondering who were the descendants of this John and his son Jeremiah. Does anyone know? There were so many different Johns and Jameses, but so far none are my James. Most of my James's children were in Fred. and Warren Cos and married c. 1840s. They married Showalter, Smith, Rogers, Marker, and Breedlove.
