Hi Annette,
I will have to get my Atlas out to find where you are.

Thank you for sharing the info with me. I am sorry to hear about your friends children. It is extremely difficult when families are faced with genetic illnesses.
With Thalassemia there is major and minor. I think i t is the major that gives the serious health problems.

If Mozingo is Italian that would be my only Italian connection. I have found MAZZENGA that live near Rome.
My brother's wife is Italian: Grimaldi's, Pinto, Franco's.
I am married twice:
De Persis (Rome) and Licari...My present husband is the one whose
Di Legami's have the Thalassemia gene. (Sicily) My ex husband is the one with Fanconi Aplastic Anemia gene...
Dr. Giovanni Pagano lost his teen age son to FAA. He is from near Naples, Italy.
We are from the east coast but now live in Northern Nevada
There are lots of Italian families out west.
What names are you researching? Is it all Sardinia?
I find the history fascinating.

You might ask your friend to ask about Fanconi Anemia from the research doctors in Caglieri.
There was one child from Turkey who had both FAA and Thalassemia.
Research is extremely important to find better treatment and cures. Bone marrow transplant is not the be all end all.
Thank you for posting.
Ciao, Gayle L.
