I was checking the Sardinia forum and came across your details.I checked out your website, what a great story, and the guardian angel song bought tears to my eyes.
I have a story to tell and am currently researching my family roots. My family come from Latvia and there are many stories. I have gone to DNA Tribes in the US to have my mothers DNA analysed and have had a very interesting result which shows a very strong link to Sassari/Orgosolo in Sardinia. I decided to contact a person in Latvia who does Geneaology research and he is coming up with some very interesting detail. Because of such a strong DNA link to Sardinia I am trying to establish a link between Latvia and Sardinia. Research is showing that family detail could only be found in early German archives, there has been family name changes twice, a real puzzle. But I am like you I really want to know who these ancestors were, I had the good fortune to visit Latvia with my mother to visit her mother for her 100th birthday. It was a wonderful time, I got to learn many things of the family. I visited my Great Aunt in 1966 who lived in New York, she migrated from Germany after WW11. I was posted to the US Navy guided missile school at Dam Neck Virginia with 5 other guys to do a 9 months course on Radar technology. While I was there I had the opportunity to visit my Great Aunt. That was the first time since 1946 she saw me. I was a small baby who was named after her husband my great uncle Erik.
My research has taken me to Estonia, and is progressing.
From my DNA research there is also a strong diaspora to Argentina with the same family name as mums family OSIS but with spanish christian names.
Osis is the name of an Ash tree in the Latvian language, Esche which was also used as a family surname is Ash tree in the German language. I am just wondering whether the early descendants from Sardinia carried the Italian name Frassino for Ash tree?.
Ceslis is my step-fathers surname, DNA tests on my step brother shows very strong links to Iceland and Corsica.
I thought I'd share this with you.
