Bonnie,
There is no "Sappington's of America" newsletter anymore.
From about 1980 to 1995, I used to send out a newsletter each year to invite people to, what I thought had become, a national gathering place for Sappington descendants.
In 1995, I and others, during a Sappington reunion business meeting, were told by president Glen Sappington, of Columbia, Missouri that the reunion in California, Missouri was, as far as he knew, only a reunion of the descendants of Sebastion Sappington and Millie White with other Sappington people welcome.Glen Sappington of Columbia, Missouri said he knew of no national Sappington reunion or national Sappington gathering place.
And yet, the Sappington reunion officers refuse to drop the name "Sappington's/Sappingtons of America" name which I created in 1980.
The real problem had started in 1994, when I did not attend the Sappington reunion in California, Missouri because I was running for State Representative in my area.Remarks, which are on tape, were made by Catherine Moyle Sappington that were negative to me and the work that I did.
I have since stopped promoting the Sappington reunion in California, Missouri as a nationalSappington gathering place or reunion for Sappington descendants.
I have not attended the Sappington reunion in California, Missouri since 1996.
However, if you are interested in attending the Sappington reunion in California, Missouri, it is ususally held the weekend of the 4th Sunday of October each year.
I would assume that the president is still Glen Sappington of Columbia, Missouri.
Catherine Moyle Sappington puts out a newsletter called "Family Links" which she states is "a newsletter for and about the Sappington family".Catherine is married to Marvin Sappington of Columbia, Missouri.
Catherine Moyle Sappington and Verla Zimmerman Sappington copied much of my Sappington material that I used to take to California, Missouri. Some of the material they have even claimed as their own work.
In fact, Verla Zimmerman Sappington has tried to claim that she is the historian for "Sappington's/Sappingtons of America".Verla had business cards printed up very similar to my old ones, which I used to pass out.Verla is married to Chuck Sappington of Manteca, California.
I was always very free with letting people use the material I had obtained from research and others.Apparently, I was too free in letting Catherine Moyle Sappington and Verla Zimmerman Sappington use it.
In fact, I had placed alot of trust in these two women.I feel that is the saddest part of all.
I also find it interesting that my father, who used to go to California, Missouri with me, always said that I would get hurt someday by some of the people who attended that Sappington reunion. How true his words were!
I find people are so interesting, don't you?!
