Dear Eileen -- Delighted to get your response to my query, and to know there are others out there working on the same problem.I have, in fact, been in direct e-mail contact with Lindsay Taylor over the past year, but had no knowlege of the Karner's website, which is a real find.Thank you for pointing me in its direction.
I was always rather sceptical about the relationship between the Santo/Le Santo/Lesanto/Leasanto/Le & Lo Zanto names, because my own direct antecedants were all recorded simply as 'Santo'.But the more comprehensive tree recorded on this site makes it pretty clear that these are all part of the same family. This also confirms what I was told by an elderly cousin, Esme Santo. She said that, in her youth (early 1900s), certain members of her family were referred to, almost interchangeably, as both Santo and Lesanto.
My line of descent is from Philip & Elizabeth's son John. How do you fit into the picture? Incidentally, I was contacted in 1985 by Arthur Inch (member No.45, CFHS) who had among his ancesters two names that you mentioned: both Santo as a given name, and Tolcher as a surname. Are you in touch?
Much of my research was done in the 1970's and early 80's, when it was easy to get one's hands on the original Parish Registers and other documents.Hence there may be one or two things I can add to the Karner's data, if I can find out how to do it - I'm not yet very web-numerate!
If you wish to get in touch direct, my e-mail is "[email protected]"...........Regards.........Jeremy.
