The story of the name as its been passed down for many generations is that the Santee's were of French Hugenot origin. There are records of a Christopher Santee - who I descend from - who was a tobacco farmer in Talbot County Maryland in the late 1600's.He owned 3 slaves. Its my understanding that slaves often took their owners last name, which could account for FPC's having the name Santee.
I'd be interested to see what you have.Is there a connection between this indian lineage and the Santee Sioux tribe of the Dakota region?
