Santee Line Traced Back To 1205 A.D.
A friend who knew my interest in the Santee line informed me that he had found that they could be traced back to 1205 A.D.I knew him to be truthful and so I give you here the information.
Starting with Simon DeSandis in 1205, they are Henry, Richard, John, Richard, Robert, John DelSandes, William, George, Robert, Myles, Richard, Francis, William Sandes, Emanuel, and Robert Sandys.
Elias Santee is supposed to be the one who came to America from France. Some of the names above are from England and some from France.I have a theory about that.William the Conqueror from Normandy invaded England and in 1066 A.D. defeated them at the one-day Battle of Hastings. That was the beginning of French rule in England.I feel that there were Frenchmen with "SANTEE" versions of their name were among the soldiers and eventual English citizens.
Their offspring remained in England for many hundreds of years until they returned to France before coming to America.
If you notice their names (DelSandes, Sandes, and Sandys), they all share parts of the same name. Here in America there were different forms of the name SANTEE:SANDY, SENTIE, SENDY, SENDEE, SENDRY, etc.SANTEE was by far the most common spelling of the name.
I am a son of Eva Irene (SANTEE) Strouse, who was born in Drums, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
