Santaw surname origin and information

My maiden name was Santaw; one gravestone was spelled Santeaw. There are a few in Vermont (Bristol, New Haven area, some from Canada. Would like to know what the nationality of name, where they originally came from. There's some question of perhaps name originally St. Onge. I could use any information anyone could supply me with.
