Joel son of Timothy Sanford

Hi,
Am trying to find some details on Joel Sanford's life. He was born 21 Nov 1799 in (?), the son of Timothy Sanford and Rhoda Norebach. Some in this forum say in Endland, but various US census have him born in Mass. and NY. so am not sure.

Joel married Louisa Young (Brihgam's sister) and they had children, and Joel is listed in the 1830 census on same page as Brigham and other Youngs. He went with the Mormons from NY to Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri where Louisa was killed.

Joel then quit the Mormons and went back to IL(?) to live the remainder of his life, and according to other sources, his children from his third marriage are born in McDonough County, IL.

Here the questions arrise. He is not found in Illinois (or any other state) in the 1840, 1850 or the 1860 census. There is a Joel Sanford found in the 1850 census living with a family in Hornellsville, NY who was a cabnetmaker (as was Joel) and his age is correct, but that's not enough.

My gggf Joel then shows up in Lamoine township in 1870 and 1880 census. This is where tradition has him living for those lost 30 years.

Would like to know who his children were with each wife (Louisa Young, Elizabeth Williams and Alice Rice) and where he lived for those years he did not show up in the US census.

I don't have as much info as would like, but have some pictures of his son Philetus Sanford (my gggf) and am willing to share what I have.

Any help from you out-there would be appreciated.
Thanks
Bob
