Dear Mary Elizabeth,
I never knew your ancestor, Mary Elizabeth Sandlin, but grew up in Buckhorn knowing her brother, Estill Sandlin. I knew him all during my youth. Mary Elizabeth and Estill were 1st cousins to my greatgrandmother, Isabelle Gross Sandlin Riley. (Mary and Estill's father, John Breckenridge Sandlin was a brother to my greatgreatgrandfather, James Franklin Sandlin. I can tell you unequivocally that Estill and Mary Elizabeth were not Osage indians.
Interestingly, their 3xgreatgrandfather was John "Renta" Baker, a blazing pioneer, the stuff legends are made of. He was quite a colorful gentleman who supposedly fathered a child by an indian lady.
