Bethany,
You might want to check the census in the Floyd County, KY area to see if you find any Sandlin families. There were Sandlin's who lived near the NC/SC border who moved on to settle in KY in the early 1800's. Groups of families usually traveled and settled near each other, and there was generally a lot of intermarriage between these families who knew each other.
There has always been talk of American Indian blood in the Sandlin family when they lived in NC/SC. In some generations of my branch of the Sandlin family, there have been some relatives who have had genes to produce straight dark hair, dark eyes, and olive complexion w/high cheekbones It has been difficult to prove because when an Indian woman married into an American family, her name was generally changed to a commonly used Christian name. At that time, American Indians were looked down upon and women wanted to distance themselves from their heritage.
I hope this information will help you a little in your family research.
Joan
