Mark Sandiford was my greatgrandfather. May Sandiford was my grandmother.
I recently spent an afternoon in Bury, enroute from Chicago to Vienna. I located the microfilm record of Mark's baptism on Dec. 3, 1837. This record gives his birth as Oct. 13, 1837. His father is indeed Robert and his mother is Betty Sharples as you note.
I received an email just this week from the people in the reference library in Bury who are very helpful. The Sandiford family lived at Moss Side, Tottington. I think Mark had 8 brothers and 2 sisters.
Mark's wife, Dorothy Isherwood, was his boyhood sweetheart who lived in the neighborhood. They moved to Joliet in about 1867 with their first two children. They had four more after arriving in Joliet. I think you may have missed Edward. My grandmother, May, was the youngest.
