Jerry,
Thanks for replying to my post. Yes this is the same Elias J. Sandifer who was married to these three ladies. My great-grandmother was the Abbie Skinner.
In the book Beauregard Parish History published by the Beauregard Parish Historical Society in 1986, there is a column on Elias J. Sandefer. It includes this on the Dear marriage:
"In Rapides Parish, Louisiana, on November 3, 1870, Elias J. Sandefer married Nancy E. Dear. She is on the 1870 Rapides Parish census with her father William Dear. They had four children: William Jackson, Laura E., Zillah R. and Frances C. Nancy Dear Sandefer died March 7, 1877 and is buried in the Old Camp Ground Cemetery near Sugartown, La."
It also mentions that when Elias' father Aron Sandifer died, his mother Laura Rebecca Butler married James W. Dear.
Their children on the Calcasieu Parish records were (1870 census I think) Emily, Sarah, Margaret, Molly, John, James, Laura and Hanford Dear.
When he married my great-grandmother Abbie Skinner he had the two girls Laura and Frances with him. They show up on the census that way.
Hope this helps some. Brenda
