Hello Wes:

While I cannot say for certain which the Anthony Samuels family were, I want to show you my research notes on the very early Anthony Samuel family who came to America from England..(not intending to say they were of the faith of the Church of England)..the name could be of any origin;
but to try and offer clues. I strongly believe this early family to be the progenitors of both the Virginia and NC lines. Debbie Shelton Wood

Anthony Samuel was a Virginia Planter.
He owned land in Rappahannock and Gloucester Counties in Viginia, where he is shown as early as 1694.
Anthony Samuel made his Last Will 17 Nov 1729 and it was recorded on 5 June 1731 in the County of Rappahannock, Virginia, which later became Essex County, VA.

Copy of this Will on my website: http://ancestor33.tripod.com/anthonysamuel/

His wife, Mary is named in the Will, as well as these heirs:
Sons, Henry ,Thomas, Anthony Jr., James; Daughters Ann Colquitt, Margaret Hamilton, Judith Bannister and Mary Sale and grandchildren John Merchant and Mary Samuel. "The Samuell-Samuel Families of Tidewater Virginia" by Dorothy S Samuel, Southern Historical Press (1997), p.364--370.

In King William Co. there exists a land record dated 1719 showing Anthony Samuel's land on "both sides of the North fork of the "South River" in St. John's Parish adjoining George Easthams land.(EASTHAM the maiden name of Anthony Samuel's mother-in-law)
Also in a land patent of Jul 1724 , 400 acres was granted to John Rogers that adjoined the land of Anthony Samuel. (Anthony Jr.s wife being Mary Rogers).

Last Will of Anthony Samuel ..."...descend to my daughter Mary, the wife of Cornelius Sail to her and her heirs forever..."

"...a planter in Kingston Parish, Gloucester County, Virginia who purchased 300 acres of land on Button's Ridge in Sittenbourne Parish, Essex County on 12 November 1694 for 5,500 pounds "of good sweet scented tobacco and casque." The clerk wrote his name as a witness on a deed 17 December 1694 as Anthony Samawal."
