Benjamin Sampson, b Maryland abt 1770, m Judith Perrin 1792 in Bedford County, VA. By 6/21/1798, Benjamin Sampson was bondsman at wedding of presumed relative (brother or half-brother?) Richard Sampson to widow Susannah Gaddy in Garrard County, KY. Garrard Co. tax list of 1799 show both Benjamin and Richard Sampson. Presumed relatives in Garrard County at the same time include Absolem Hughes and Rachel Sampson who married there 12/12/1799. Garrard County, KY 1810 census show that Benjamin and Richard Sampson were gone, but that Charles Perrin and John Perrin (brother & father of Benjamin's wife Judith) were living there. Madison County, KY 1810 census shows Benjamin Samson (no P) age 26-45, with 1 female 26-45, 1 m 16-25, and 3 f 0-10. Richard Sampson is not on the Madison County, KY census, but other records show a Richard Sampson, born Baltimore County, Maryland July 20, 1780 married Mary Watkins in Richmond, Madison County, KY Mar. 14, 1811. Their second son was John Hughes Sampson, whose middle name may indicate some family relationship with the Absolem Hughes of Garrard County. By 1819 Benjamin and Judith Perrin Sampson and family were probably in Howard County, MO. The Missouri Intelligencer show Benjamin Sampson letters at the Franklin post office in issues of Nov. 12, 1819, Jan. 7, 1820, and Oct. 9, 1821, as well as Benjamin Sampson on the Howard County non-resident delinquent tax list. Benjamin's presumed daughter Jane Sampson married Jeremiah Bernshend (Burns) in Howard County, MO 1820. In 1821, Benjamin Sampson obtained a land patent in Gallatin, Clay County, MO. He sold part to Thomas Adams Dec. 2, 1826, with wife Judah making a mark. Judith/Judah Sampson died between this date and April 2, 1830, the day of Benjamin Sampson's marriage to widow Elizabeth Holtzclaw Mansfield. Benjamin and Elizabeth Sampson sold the remaining part of the land patent Nov. 27, 1832, except for 1 acre deeded separately to the Baptist Church for worship. Presumed children of Benjamin and Judith Perrin Sampson: 1. Caleb Sampson, b. 1792-93, married Margaret Yeater Sept. 16, 1815 Garrard Co., KY. 2. Jane Sampson, born c. 1800, KY, m Jeremiah Bernshend (Burns), Howard Co., MO, 1820. 3. Martha Elizabeth (Eliza, Liza) Sampson, b. abt. 1811, KY (possibly Madison Co.); m. (1) Amanda Allen; (2) Miriam Hitt Mansfield (daughter of Benjamin Sampson's 2nd wife Elizabeth Holtzclaw Mansfield Sampson and her 1st husband Shelton Mansfield) Benjamin and Elizabeth Sampson and family are on the 1830 Clay County, MO census and the 1840 Crawford Township, Buchanan County, MO census. Benjamin Sampson probably died in Crawford Township 1840-42. Elizabeth Sampson died in Platte County between Feb. 17, 1845 (date she sold property and signed will) and Nov. 17, 1845 (date will was presented for probate). I would be pleased to correspond with other researchers, esp. since much of the above info is circumstantial and based on trying to connect the dots. Notify Administrator about this message?
