Smelser - Sample Family Connections - Missouri

John Smelser of Lafayette County, Missouri was born about 1804 or 1805 and died 4-29-1843. And in the family cemetery where he's buried, there is a Laura J. Sample, 1 year old, born 1865, daughter of William and Ada. We believe this is William Sample and Rebecca Adeline "Ada" Smelser, sister to John Smelser. Does anyone have any connections in there information to Smelser, Smeltzer, Smelzer, Smelcer, Schmeltzer or Schmelzer? Can you tell me more about the Sample family in Lafayette County, MO in the period 1850 - 1870?
