Sammons- Origin: Holland 1600's
Howdy there!
My family's knowledge of our distant past is sketchy at best. We know that a distant relative (1600's) named Van Amsterdam changed his last name for reasons unknown to Sammons on route (on the boat so I am told!) from Holland to North America. He settled in the Mohawk Valley in New York State, where I am led to believe that somewhere in there, perhaps much later, the town of Sammonsville in NY is somehow involved with the family history.

There was also a Sampson Sammons... and even a Simeon Sammons who was the Harbor Master in New York City for a time.

I would be sincerely thankful for any help!
