Mrs. Griffesh Salway, aged 35, a U.S. citizen, arrived at Ellis Island, NY 11 Oct 1907 aboard the Lusitania from Liverpool, England. Was she the wife of Griffith S. Salway of New York City in 1932? What was her maiden name? When and where was she b., m., d.? Did she have any children?

German submarines torpedoed and sank the Cunard Line ship Lusitania, flying the British flag, off the coast of Ireland 7 May 1915 at a cost of 1,198 lives; 128 American passengers were lost. The U.S. did not break off diplomatic relations with Germany until 3 Feb 1917, after Germany declared almost unrestricted submarine warfare. The U.S. did not enter World War I until 6 April 1917, nearly two years after the sinking of the Lusitania.
