Thomas Salway of Clayhanger Farm, Coombe St. Nicholas. (1881 census) was my great grandfather. I have a copy of his marriage certificate ,dated 20 March 1862, which states that his father,Benjamin,is a farmer (and presumably alive.) You however say that Benjamin and Dinah probably both died before 1853.If this is the case then the above Thomas may not be the son of Benjamin and Dinah. However I cannot trace a later death for a Benjamin Salway other than one in 1845 Honiton. Have you any further information or suggestions which could help me establish that "my Thomas" is definitely the son of "your Benjamin".
