We could well be related, but I wonder at your source for the names you gave. My grandfather was Giovanni (John) Selvaggio born in Brooklyn in 1909. His father was Salvatore Selvaggio and his mother was Mariana Ingrassia (similar to your Maria Gracia). Mariana came through Ellis Island in 1896 with her parents and again in 1901 with two daughters, Vita and Concetta. Salvatore was a longshoreman and probably worked for the shipping company since he entered the US numerous times between 1892 and 1905. Salvatore and Mariana's children were: Vita (Elvira) born 1893, Concetta born 1898 - born in Sicily, born in Brooklyn - Gioanna (Jenny) born 1903, Carmela born 1905, Leonardo born abt 1908, Giovanni (my grandfather John) born 1909, Antonio born 1911 and three infants who died before 1910. Another Salvatore, age 55, entered Ellis Island in 1903. I assumed he was my Salvatore's father because the age it right. It seems likely that your grandfather, Giovanni could be his son as well. I live on Long Island and am planning to go to Brooklyn to look through their archives on Monday and Tuesday (I'm on vacation), so I will certainly look at anything on Selvaggio and its various spellings. We even found the name spelled SALINGO on census records! I'll post ANY information I find. Lucy
