Susannah Saltsman daughter of Peter Salsman/Saltsman

Susannah Saltsman was born in 1797 in Kentucky and died in 1880 in Middletown, Wayne County, Illinois. She married John Hopkins, who was born between 1790-1800 in Kentuckky and died on Sept. 20, 1834 in Hamilton County, McLeansboro, Illinois.

John in early life followed the stone mason trade, and afterward became a merchant in McLeansboro, Illinois, keeping a grocery store untill 1833, when he came to wayne County, near Maulding's Mill, just a little east of where Wayne City now stands. there he sold groceries and dry goods about 12 monthis, and got sick, and with his whole family returned to Hamilton County, where he died about 1834. His family, after his demise, returned to their old residence, where his widow married Samuel Bradford.

Mrs. Susannah (Saltsman) Hopkins was born in Kentucky and died in Middletown in 1880, aged over 80 years. She was a daughter of Peter Saltsman, of German descent. He was a physician by occupation, and lilved many years in Kentucky, and died in Pulaski County, Missouri, aged over 100 years. She was the mother of 3 children. Probate file of John Hopkins Box 1 file 14 October 11, 1834 in Hamilton County, Illnois.

Children of John and Susannah Hopkins:

1. Carlisle Clilnton Hopkins was born in 1815 in Kentucky and died on June 17, 1865 at Belle City, Hamilton County, Ill. he married Bealah Lane Huddleston, who was born in 1822, at Alton, ILL. John Hopkin's Grandson (William G. Hopkins M.D.) in the History of Gibson County, Indiana 1914 by Stormont says William's father C.C. (Carlisle Clinton Hopkins) was born near Hopkinsville, KY about 1815. In the History of William, in Gibso County, Indiana History, it mentions a Trammell killing C.C. Hopkins. Carlisle and Bealah had a son Thomas Sloan Hopkins, M.D. born on Feburary 8, 1855 in Wayne County, ILL. and died on Oct. 10, 1882 at Ridgeway, Gallatin county, Ill. He was buried in the Crawford Campground Cemetery at Ridgeway. He married Eva Arabelle, who was born on July 27, 1856 at Mt. Carmel, Ill and died on Nov. 10, 1935 at Chicago, Cook County, ILL. She was the daughter of Ezakiel Newton Hopkins, M>D. and Sarah Ellen Walters. Thomas Sloan and Eva Arabelle Hopkins had a son Claude Clinton Hopkins, who was born on July 25, 1880 and died on Feb. 16, 1961 at Eldorado, saline County, Ill. He was buried in the Wolf Crkke Cemetery in Eldorado, Ill, the daughter of Richmond t. Carter and Annie Guest.
Clalude Clinton and Gertrude Estelle Hopkins had a son Hugh Thomas Hopkins, who was born on Sept. 15, 1903 at Eldorado, saline County, Ill. He married on Nov. 26, 1928 at Shawneetown, Gallatin County, Ill to Rachel Elizabeth Harrison, who was born on Dec. 18, 1908 at Tracy City, Grundy County, Tenn, the daughter of James Wiley Harrison and Myrtle Sally Goodman.
Hugh Thomas and Rachel Elizabeth Hopkins had a son William Eugene Hopkins, who was born on Jan. 2, 1942. He married on June 6, 1968 in Carbondale, Ill to Christine Elaine Ott, who was born on Nov. 19, 1944 at Chewelah, Stevens County, Washington, the daughter of Arthur Paul Ott and Dorothy Mildred Franson.

2. Hester Ann Hopkins married Rev. Andrew Maulding. Hester Ann died in Wayne County, Ill.
3. John F.S. Hopkins was born n Sept. 13, 1825 in Hamilton ckounty, Ill. He died on sept.10, 1898 at Middleton Wayne County, Ill. He married first to Nancy M. Garrison, then next to Emeline Johnson Green. John was a merchant at Long Prairie, Ill. John was buried at Thomason Cemetery in ILL.
