My name is Laura Schutts, I believe your grandfather and my grandmother were brother and sister. My grandmother's name was Mary she was born 1894. She had married Fred Broich abt 1913. Our great grandfather also a Fred was from Prussia/Germany. You spoke of William and Leo, there was also a Bessie and a Jo. I lived in Germany for a few years in the 80's. My father is still alive and does have a lot of info. he still travels often to the Columbia area. i live in Colorado, but still have a lot of family in Columbia. I have a copy of your grandfather's Draft Reg. Card and 1920/1930 US Census. I am certain this is the Salzman family you speak of. Our great grandfather spelled is name Salzmann in the US, per his gravestone. Am certain it was spelled Saltzmann in Germany.Please contact me have lots more to share.
