Hi Jeanne, I do not know the name Hurdis, but I do know that the Saltzmans came into the US through New York, California and New Orleans. I have met relatives here in NY, but it seems that there is also a branch of the family that went through Russia, and according to what I was told, we are not related to that branch. I know our family was originally Jewish, but at least in New Orleans, that changed when one of my grandfathers married a French catholic. Perhaps you are related to the Russian branch, or we have not extended our search enough to cover all of our NY relatives and there do seem to be a number of Saltzmans up here (down south it is not a common name...). I will ask my father though, he knows more of the family than I do... Deb
