Rudolph was born 1828 in Switzerland. In 1872 he emigrated to U.S. via New York. He came rather directly to Wisconsin where a daughter had been married the year prior to his arrival. His wife, Barbara and daughter Selina emigrated in 1874. Selina in 1880 married Frank Heinz in Weyeuwega, Waupaca, Wisconsin. Rudolph bought land with Frank several times. In 1896 Rudolph and Barbara helped their daughter Susanna's family when Susanna died in Wells, Faribault, Minnesota. By 1900 Barbara is listed in the census as living with Selina and Frank in Matchwood, Michigan.
