My husband's father was adopted. This has made researching the line very difficult. William was born to Esther Berneice Haney (unknown if she actually married the father Mr. Salter)and a Mr. Salter. Esther died before she could reveal any details but apparently Mr. Salter left them or she may have never married him. It was all very hush-hush. Ester raised William herself until she met a Nuncie Joseph Destro. Nuncie married Esther and adopted William Scott Salter changing the childs name to William Joseph Salter. My father-in-law told a story of how Nuncie once threatened to hit him with a hammer and that Esther kicked Nuncie out. Nuncie was never heard from again. I have nothing but dead ends since all information died with Esther. She never gave her son any paperwork regarding his adoption or birth and none was found in her estate. So if anyone runs across the name William Scott Salter born in 1940 (if that is even true) please let me know.
