Hello,
Do you have the name of Edmund's wife? The actual town in Quebec? Any birth or marriage dates? I have a Napolean but he was born in 1826 in St. Louis, so obviously it is not your brother. Are you in Canada now or the US? Where?
I think you should post your query on this forum as a NEW query so you can put in a subject heading with Edmund and his wife's names (as opposed to a useless "Looking for my ancestors..." that will show up for everyone to see. But send me more details and I will look around and see if I can find anything.
As for whether you are descended ultimately from Claude Salois, I am 99.9% sure you are. As far as I can learn, there was only one person named Salois who immigrated to Canada in the 1600s, and I believe that everyone with that name today is his descendant. He had a lot of children, I think 16.
If you read about the early days in New France you'll see there was a very small population. All of us of French Canadian descent are related somehow if you go back far enough. Even genetic studies have born this out. The king gave monetary and other rewards for every child born in New France, which partially explains the very large families. Somewhere I found a Canadian site that showed the relative frequency of different surnames today, and Salois is one of the smallest, that is, least common. This reflects the fact there was only one Salois who came over to North America.
