Welcome and hurray! We have a forum!
Hello fellow descendants (no doubt) of Claude Salois-de-St-Paul who came to Canada in the early 1600s as a soldier in the Carrignan Regiment, married a "Fille Du Roi," Anne Mabille, and had 10 children, nine of whom lived to have their own.
My great grandmother was a twin named Delphine Salois. Her twin brother was Delphus. There was at least one other sibling, Adeleaide, and all three moved from around Coaticook or Stanstead, Quebec, to Littleton, NH in the late 1800s. They changed their name to Salway. Their father was Louis Salway, married to Claire Houle. They apparently stayed in Canada. Louis Salway had a brother Michel Salois, who became Mitchell Salway in Littleton, NH. Mitchell's wife was Matilda Cushing (the former Mathilde Courchene!)
My greatgrandmother Delphine was disowned by her family for marrying my great grandfather, Henri Durant, and this led ultimately to several tragedies in my family, not least that we lost the connection with both the Houles and Salois/Salways. I have met some internet Salois relations but am still anxious to know more of them. More than 100 years has passed until this recent connection via the net with my lost branch of the Salois clan and the rest of this family! So if you see any connection to these NH Salois-turned Salway, do contact me.
