John Salmon and Eleanor McCarty
It has been a while since I posted this message (in 2003)but I think it is time to do it again.
"Hi Everyone,
Are you sure that John Salmon married Eleanor McCarty? About 12 years ago I found a marriage in the LDS name index on John SUMMON married Eleanor McCarty on Apr 10, 1748 of Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Va. I though this was a good possibility that John SUMMON was really John Salmon and someone couldn't read the hand writing correctly. I passed this information on to some genealogists with the understanding that this information needs to be check out and I didn't have the time. Now I am retired and am able to go back to genealogy. But, now I have found that a lot of people is excepting this as fact and this sadden me. Because, I did finely get to check into this information a little more and found that other had claimed that it is John LEMMON and not John Summon. They claimed that there were a Lemmon family in that area at the time. But, to this day, I can't find anything on the family of John Lemmon and Eleanor McCarty. But, they too may have misread the handwriting. I can't find the original document to check it out. Could someone help me here! A Will of her father may give us some clues on who she married, but we don't know her father's name. Anyway, more research is needed before I expect McCarty as fact. However, I am really sorry for the misleading and I sure hope it can be corrected someday (if needed)."
THEREFORE NOTE: JOHN SALMON DID NOT GET MARRIED TO ELEANOR McCARTY!!Here is a good example of not being able tounring a bell but I am still trying.Just Remember: Eleanor McCarty married John Lemmon. We don't know what Eleanor's maiden name was but Rowland is a possibility. Then again there is NO proof of this either.
