Chances are good that your John Salmon's grandfather is my John Salmon b. 8 Jan 1730 d. ca. 1801. He served in the Rev. War from Dutchess Co NY. I have DAR papers on him.
This John had sons John, Beverly, Daniel, Elijah and Charles.

Perhaps the John and Charles you mentioned.

John Salmon(son of above) was b. 12 Mar 1759 m. Margaret Birdsall
Beverly Salmon b. 21 Oct 1765 m. Sarah Uller

I have no other spouses for the other sons.
