John Salmon of Northumberland Co., PA about 1775
Posted by: Louis Ogden (ID *****4665) Date: March 28, 2007 at 14:50:08

John Salmon (b.1727, d. bef 1790) married Nancy Ogden (d/o David Ogden) in 1751. This John Salmon removed from Long Island to Morris County, NJ along with his wife's family, perhaps as early as 1740. By the 1760's, this John Salmon lived in Lower Smithfield Township, Pennsylvania. He was among the PA claimants that contested the Wyoming Valley against the Connecticut settlers during the First Yankee-Pennemite War in 1769-1771. He settled near Fishing Creek in Northumberland (now Columbia) County, PA, prior to the American Revolution.

His sons, John and Joseph are historically identified, both having served in the Rev War. They are both identified in the Northumberland County census in 1790, along with their widowed mother. Joseph died in Columbia County, PA about 1822. John relocated to Livingston County, NY and died about 1837.

The key to tying the sons to the father is the Ogden family. I am trying to detail the Ogden family in Northumberland County during the period 1775-1800 and will be more than happy to share what I know with anyone who is interested.
