Peggy, Not sure where James and Susan were married in 1869. I asked the Randolph Co. Clerk to investigate and get me copies of Jacob Cox's credentials that he states are on file there. She sent me the information but it only tells me that he is a minister of the Gospel for the ME Church South. I had no idea what that meant until I talked to Ms. Evelyn Flippo who works at the Old Historic Powhatan Court House. She is very familiar with the Methodist Church history for that area and I have asked her to research Jacob Cox. I haven't heard any news from her yet but will pass it on when I do. Everlyn did tell me that Methodist church later changed their name from ME South to United Methodist. I always wondered why my g grandmother belonged to the Methodist Church and not the Baptist Church or Church of Christ as so many are in that area. Now we know! I agree that we may need to look at the Tenn census records. My g grandmother (Billie) always said that she was born in Pennsboro, MO that is in Dade Co ( I think) but I asked the Clerk ther e to look into it and she came up with nothing. Maybe Susan Cox's family was from there. In the 1870 census, James Sallings was born in MO.... Could have been a short stay in MO. Heart problems are an unfortunate trait in this family. My father had his first of many heart attacks at the age of 43. He is 70 now and with the help of modern medicine, a triple bypass, and the Grace of Almighty God, he is still alive today. He only has about 30 percent of his heart and before the bypass he was about 99 percent blocked. It was a miracle that he survived. I think it is a good warning to all of us to have a heart test done regularly. The surgeon told us that my dad had too numerous heart attacks and he stopped counting at 10!!! The heart was severly scarred. Keep in touch and thanks for your help, Chris
