Chris, The earliest census that I have checked for James Sallings is 1870, when he was married to Susan. I am going to the library Monday evening and will try the 1850. I may be able to find some information in the wills and land holdings books they have on Lawrence County. At some point we may have to search for a county in Tennessee. The 1900 census did not list parents names, just that they were both born in TN.
Very interesting stuff on Jacob Cox. I'll see if I can find anything else on that. So were they married in Missouri or Arkansas? The license was recorded in Lawrence Co., AR. This certainly gives me something to work on. Thanks again. Oh yes, My husband is the 2nd son of Max Sallings. Max died at age 56 - heart attack. In fact, all three of the boys died from heart problems. Bobby at age 55. Debbie's dad, Ronald, lived the longest and had survived an attack at about age 60. Doesn't say much for my husband's history, but hopefully having the information makes us be a little more aware of things we can do to ward off heart trouble. I'll stay in touch - you do the same. Peggy
