Eliseo "Cheyo" Salinas, still alive and kicking at age 80, is my Uncle. He was born January 30, 1928 in Matagorda, Texas and is still married to Juana Alicia Flores-Salinas, born in Agaululco, Mexico, in 1928. The "Del Sur" Resturant (1938-1995) in Pharr, was passed onto him by my Grand-mother, Maria Guadalupe De La Luz Cuellar-Salinas in 1963. He and she have 11 surviving children living all throughout "La Valle", including their son Benjamin Salinas, M.D., who has a practice in Weslaco. Richard "Tito" Salinas lives in McAllen. "Cheyo" is a very great man to one and all and is thoroughly dedicated to his Catholic faith through St. Margaret's Church in Pharr. He has even met the Pope 2 or 3 times. "Cheyo" lost a brother in WWII, Sijifredo Salinas, killed in action by a Kamikaze suicide aircraft, on 9 January, 1945. Sijifredo had been wounded earlier in September, 1944 by yet another Kamikaze attack and received moderate to severe flash burn's from the ignited aviation fuel. He was a gunnery seaman and alway's above deck's. His empty grave is in our very old family cemetary plot at the Guadalupe Cemetery in Pharr. His body was buried at sea in the Lingayen Gulf, in the Phillipine Island's. I hope this helps. Thank you. I remain,
Very sincerely,
Verle E. Cuellar-Salinas-Wenneker
