I put his date of birth are 1769, but it could be earlier. In the 1810 census he is listed as being between 26 and 44, but he has a daughter that is 16-25. Also, his first marriage, to Patty EVans, daughter of William and Joice Evans, was on 10 Aug 1793. So if he were born around 1769, it would fit. In 1830, he reported he was between 60 and 70, in 1840 he said he was between 70 and 80. But in 1850, he gives a birthdate that would make him 77. I have 8 children listed for him from the first marriage, but not all are confirmed. William J. ( his death record names his father as Richard); Joice married first cousin Bluford Mays; Sarah married a Campbell, then first cousin Bransford Mays; Elizabeth married Wiatt (Wiley) Campbell; Nancy Jane married Charles Mays; Robert Lewis; George W; and Henry.
