Looking for info on John N. Sale, soldier in War of 1812 in Mathews Co. VA Militia--61st Regt. (Gayle's). I believe Edmond Sale was John's father...perhaps Henry W. and Phillip were brothers. The only earlier Sale mentioned in Mathews Co. was Francis Sale... John N. married Martha R. (maiden name unknown--could be Smith). He died 1849 in Mathews and is buried in the Smith-Borum Cemetery there; was Justice of the Peace for the county 1833-1838. Martha was enumerated in adjoining Gloucester Co. beginning in 1850. They had daughters Elizabeth J. (m. Richard Claiborne Coleman abt. 1851); Harriet R., (died young & buried in Bellamy Church Cemetery, Gloucester, along side her sister, Elizabeth J. Coleman. I'm pretty certain this family descends from the Sales of Essex Co....but how? Can anyone help?
