As to the 10 May 1745 reference, I need to verify this from the microfilm records before commenting any further.
The 9 November 1752 reference is in keeping with the other records that I have found for Anthony Sale. He apparently owned land in the area of John Daniels Mill which later became Whites Mill and now lies within the boundries of Fort A.P. Hill in Caroline County. His land lied along Three Knotch (sic) Road and was next to that of Sneed, Blackburn and Crutcher. Elias Blackburn had posted a bond for Anthony's sister-in-law, Hannah, who was married to Anthony's older brother, William when William died. The Sneed family owned a tavern at Daniel's Mill and at least one Sneed married a Sale. Two of Thomas Crutcher's daughter's married Sale men, Robert and Leonard.
14 December 1752, James Sale, married Ruth Smith, daughter of Nicholas and Anne Smith. James had land in Caroline County.
8 November 1753, again this refernce is to the road that ran from Daniel's Mill and the Essex County line and intersected Three Knotch (sic) Road.
15 February 1754, Anthony apparently testified on behalf of John Mehar in a court case and the court ordered Mehar to pay for Anthony travel and lodging. This was a normal procedure during this time period.
14 August 1755 reference to John Sale's tithables will require more research.
13 November 1755, again, William Daniels Jr, the grandson of John Daniels wished to turn the road, probably to bring it up to a new home he had built. The Daniels owned 925 acres at Daniels Mill, part of which, the N.E. part, was later sold to Leonard Sale by the widow of John or William Daniels, which I can't remember without checking further.
There is an 1760 reference in Campbell that Anthony was made Overseer of Three Knotch (sic) Road. This had been debated whether it was Anthony, Senior or Anthony, Junior who was made Overseer. Hoever, with these other references, it appears that Anthony Sale, Senior was the one with the road expertise.
As to your observations. It was not uncommon in from my research that women had children well into there 40's especially considering the number of children Anthony and Ann had, which numbered 12. She would have been well into he 40's when the last child was born. I stated that she was probably born about the same time as Anthony, in fact, based on when Robert Sale was born, she could have been borm between 1701-1709.
As to Anthony Sale participating in Braddock's campaign. He was not the only miltia of that age and driving a wagon was often the job of an older person. Mordecai Hord was about 40 years old when he became Captain and Wagon master. The Hord's owned a large estate called Shady Grove, near Daniel's Mill in Caroline County. I have to stand by the stories brought down by two great-grandchildren of Anthony Sale.
