Thanks to Cal Sale for the detailed history of Anthony Sale.
References to Anthony Sale appear in at least three of the Caroline County volumes abstracted and compiled by John Frederick Dorman. The earliest entry for Anthony Sale in Caroline County appears to be in 1745 even though the records go back to the 1730's. The following information is presented from notes taken several years ago. The original Dorman entries should be consulted to confirm this information. I found the books at a UVA Library in Charlottesville.
Caroline County, Virginia, Order Book, 1740 - 1746, Part Three, 1744 - 1746, Abstracted and compiled by John Frederick Dorman:
10 May, 1745. Pages 16-17 of Dorman, “Thomas Price and Catharine his wife deeds of lease and release to Anthony Sale was proved by John Sale, Jno. Lloyd jur. and James Sale, witnesses thereto.” Another source reported the entry as, “Thomas Price and Catherine his wife deeds of lease and release to James Sale was proved by Anthony Sale. John Sale and John Lloyd, witnesses thereto.”

14 August 1755. Page 36 of Dorman. “It’s ordered John Sale’s tithables be added to Mr. Gilchrist’s list.” [Page 92 of the Order Book, dated 14 August 1755.]
13 November 1755. Pages 50-51 of Dorman. “On the petition of William Daniel Jr. etc. it is ordered William Howard, Antho. Sale and James Sale view the road Daniel petitioned to have turned and make report.” [Page 118 of the Order Book, dated 13 Nov. 1755.]
Three observations regarding the Anthony Sale history: First, Cornelius Leroy Sale is said to have been born March 1748, which would make his parents pretty remarkable, since Anthony Sale was born in about 1700 and Ann Goode Sale was born at about the same time. Secondly, a 55-year-old Anthony participates in Braddock’s 1755 expedition, when the average age was much younger - George Washington was 23 at the time. Third, the November 1755 entry cited by Dorman suggests our 55-year-old Anthony had been discharged from service, returned home where he had left young children, and recovered from wounds.
Anthony Sale certainly provides an interesting history to study.
