The family of Caroline Co., VA’s Hannah Sale … It is among the old court records in Fredericksburg, VA. The web site is www.historiccourtrecords.org. The case is Puller vs. Brown. I keyed in Sale, Hannah in the Court Record section to bring up the record. It lists my Caleb among the children of Hannah Sale. Also, the abstract indicates Robert Sale married Hannah Thorp, sister of Mark Thorp. I am not sure if this Robert is Robert Sale, son of Hannah Sale, or, I hope, Robert Sale, husband of Hannah Thorp and father of Hanna Sale’s son Robert. This would take me back another generation. Another web site, http://www.lexisnexis.com/academic/guides/aws/sowo0701.pdf, shows some LVA land records for Marmaduke Thorp of Essex Co., VA. The reference is in the Reel Index section of the document. These records might be informative. I plan to order the above records at some point, but have too much going on now to do much more than surf the web when I have a few minutes. Caleb Sale is my ancestor. I suspect that his sister Nancy married the Henry White who received land from the estate of Chilion White (d 1805-1806) when it was settled in 1809. Elijah and Henry White and Lucy Fortune received land and 155 acres were returned to Caleb Sale. See the 1809 Caroline Co., VA tax records. Also, here is Hannah Sale’s signature! Along with that of Ambrose, Chilion, and John White. They are in the Early Virginia Religious Petitions section of the American Memory section of the Library of Congress web page, http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/petitions/ I have not yet checked for Thorps. October 16, 1779, King and Queen, Caroline, Drysdale Parish, against parish division p. 3 - Ambrose and Chilion White p. 4 – John White and Hannah Sale. It is really special that her signature is on this eighteenth century document. December 4, 1786, Caroline, For repeal of incorporation act and for sale of glebes p. 3 – Chilion White There are many Sale signatures on these petitions. I think the Edmund Jones/Frances Hampton parents for Elizabeth Jones who married Caleb Sale needs more work. There is a new listing on World Connect that indicates their daughter Elizabeth married someone else. Sincerely, Lynn Notify Administrator about this message?
