William SALE / SAYLE m. Hannah AMIS in NC; later lived in Robertson Co, TN

This message is an update with some new questions to my posting #71 on the AMIS family forum (Genforum), dated Dec. 27, 2000.

Iím trying to confirm that my 4th great grandparents were William SAYLE (b. ca. 1773) and Hannah AMIS. I believe they were married ca. 1795, probably in NC, because my 3rd great grandfatherís brother Robert L. SAYLE was born in NC in 1799. My 3rd great grandparents were Thomas S. SAYLE, b. 1808 (birth shown on different census records as TN & KY) & his first wife, Elizabeth HAYNES. Thomas and family moved to Hunt Co, TX in 1857. IF Iím on the right track, another sibling of Thomas & Robert would have been Dr. Cornelius W. SAYLE, father of Dr. W.A.C. SAYLE who later lived in Morrilton, Conway Co, AR. There are many doctors in these SAYLE families.

Iím trying to determine if the William SAYLE (shown as SALE, SAIL, SEAL, SEAL, with or without an ending "s") in Robertson Co, TN is one and the same as my 4th great grandfather. A cousin of mine has a note stating that Thomas S. SAYLEís mother was named Hannah. Another note refers to her as an AMIS / AMOS. The William SAYLE in Robertson Co, TN came from NC and apparently was married to Hannah (see below). I believe William SAYLE (Robertson Co, TN) was a member of the SALE family that was first in Caroline & Essex Co, VA, with some branches later living in Halifax, Surry & Wilkes Co, NC.
Excerpt from M. LOWE email on June 30, 2005:

Charles Sherrell book on the 1810 Reconstructed Census of TN:

Robertson Co, TN:
Hannah Sale Robertson Co. proved a deed to Cornelius Sale page 114
Wm Sale Robertson Co. Proved deed to Cornelius Sale page 114
I believe William & Hannah may be the parents of my Thomas S. SAYLE but I need more info to verify. Could this Hannah SALE, apparently wife of William SALE (SAYLE?), be the Hannah AMIS who was a daughter of William AMIS & Hannah DAILY who were married in Essex Co, VA in 1754 & moved to Granville Co, NC? (The SALE family in question also lived in Essex Co, VA before some moved to NC.) Hannah AMIS was born ca. 1771, according to info I found on a DANIEL family web site. That would make her very close to the age of William SALE / SAYLE of Robertson Co, TN. William and his wife Hannah both died in Robertson Co, TN, according to a bio of their grandson, Dr. W.A.C. SAYLE.

Does anyone have information on Hannah AMIS, d/o William AMIS & Hannah DAILEY? Her brothers were Joseph, Lewis, William & John. There may have been other children but these are the only names Iíve seen. (I just found this information yesterday).

Any help finding info about William SALE / SAYLE and his wife and her family is appreciated. I'm happy to share any info I have. [I think William may be a son of William SALE, Jr. of Wilkes Co, NC (d. 30 Aug 1788) who married Ann "Nancy."

Thanks! Becky Smith
