Debbie, according to the information I have, this Cornelius was a son of Anthony SALE born ca. 1702 in Essex Co, VA and died 15 Oct 1781 in Caroline Co, VA & Anne BRISTOW b. ca, 1700 in Essex Co, VA. For Cornelius himself the birthdate I have is 29 March 1748 or 1749, Elbert Co, GA and death date is 1808 in Lincoln Co, GA (now Elbert County). "Patriotic Service, VA" 1966 DAR record. Cornelius married Jane DAWSON on 20 Oct 1768 and they had sons Lewis and William (the only two names I have for children). The birth date I have for Lewis is 4 Aug 1773 and I have no info on William except his name. No other children listed but I would expect there were others.

From: "The Virginia Genealogist" April-June 1985 Vol. 29 #2:

"Cornelius SALE Amherst County, VA. Speciality and Account, Amherst Store value approximately 26 pounds. Removed to Georgia about 1784 and carried with him a good estate. He settled above the town of August, GA and has generally been reputed solvent."

Jane DAWSON died 1830, Lincoln Co, GA (now Elbert County). I think there's a typo in the birthdate I have for Jane -- 1764 -- should be no later than 1754, I would think. Even 1754 would make her pretty young (only 14) when they got married.
