Brenda, this is from my book "Lore and Legacy: A History of the Cheek, Sale and Sparks Families" ... http://www.thepilgrimpresss.homestead.com/homestead.html
- Jeffrey Lewis Williams

Elizabeth Sale (Baroness), Grandmother of the 1st Duke of Wellington - Napoleon's Nemesis:
Mary Ussher, daughter of Sir William Ussher by his second wife, Ursula St. Barbe. Mary Ussher married Henry Cowley or Colley, of Castle Carbery in 1674.
Their son, Richard Colley (b. est. 1690 d. January 31, 1758) took the surname "Wesley or Wellesley" on inheriting the property of his cousin, Garret Wesley. Richard was created Lord Mornington and he married (the Baroness of Mornington) Elizabeth SALE (b. est. 1692 d. June 17, 1738; daughter of the Registrar of Dublin, John SALE L.L.D., b. est. 1666) on December 23, 1719. Elizabeth SALE is one of the 49 (of 64) known great-great-great-great grandparents of the Queen Mother Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (b. August 4, 1900).
Elizabeth SALE-WELLESLEY's son Garret, Earl of Mornington (b. July 19, 1735 in Dublin, Ireland - d. May 22, 1781 in Kensington, London, England) married Ann Hill-Trevor (a daughter of Lord Dungannon) on February 6, 1759 in Belvoir County, Down, Ireland.
Garret (Earl of Mornington) Wellesley's third son was Arthur Wellesley (1769-1852), baptized at St. Peter's Dublin, who became the first Duke of Wellington in 1814 (Field Marshall, Commander-in-Chief of the Forces, and Prime Minister of Great Britain in 1828), who defeated Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France, at the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815.
