You know, I've been puzzling that myself for a long time, especially since David Pelletier is a distant cousin. One of my sources of French Canadian genealogy is Tanguay which does list a single immigrant from France with the last name of Sale, but it seems as if that whole line died out in the early 1700s. My guess is that Jamie's name is more likely of a non French-Canadian origin.
