hello. i am just adding to yuor comments. hope u find what i say useful. my surname is sale. actual pronunciation is sarlay(phonetically) as that is how it is pronounced in italy where my name originates. my grtandfather salvatore agostino sale is from benevento nr to napoli.with regards to the cuban geaeologist saying that there was a misspelling of salis to sale. perhaps the original registrars missheard. as sale pronounced correctly in italiano sounds similar. or perhaps not. oops . hoep this helps, ciao .
