Dear cousin Anne,
I must have had mush for brains when I entered the query; his name was Henry not Harry. Martha's mother was Julia Ann (Wright) Gillespie. From Julia's bible, "Martha Joannah Gillespie was born in Fayette County Tennessee May 1st 1849-". Also from Julia's bible, "Mattie J. Gillespie was married to H. T. Sale in Colorado Co. Texas by Rev. A. L. P. Green August 2 1871".
From Julia's "Last Will and Testament, filed March 30, 1898, Colorado Co. TX:
I, Julia A. Gillespie, resident in the above named State and County being The State of Texas, County of Colorado, do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby annulling and revoking all former wills by me at any time made. .............Item 3rd To my daughter Mattie J. Sale wife of Henry T Sale, I give two promissory notes executed and delivered to me by her said husband for the sum of eight hundred and seventy five dollars each. These notes are dated of the 22nd day of November 1872 one of them due the 1st day of November 1876 and the other the 1st day of November 1877. "
Unfortunately I have nothing on the Sale family but there are some old pictures which I believe are Sale family taken in Colorado. I will get them out of my archives and check them more closely for names/dates. My great aunt, Martha J. Gillespie corresponded with her namesake Martha J. Sale in California; both were known as "Mattie".
Thank you for the post. Hopefully we can assist each other.
