Eldred,

To understand the indenture which you recorded from the Culpeper County Deed Book, you need to read the will of John Puller of Culpeper, which was recorded in Will Book H, 16 March 1813, on page 52. In his will, John Puller disposed of a very valuable estate, which was distributed among his near relatives and close friends since he had no children of his own. After the distribution to his wife, Ann, and his sisters, nephews and friends, the residual estate was to be divided among the children of his four brothers and sisters: Letetia Spindle, Goulder Puller(dec'd), James Puller(dec'd),
and Peggy Smith.

Goulder Puller(my ancestor) married Elizabeth Broaddus and lived in Caroline County. James Puller married ______ and lived in Spotsylvania County. The marriages of several of the children of James Puller were recorded in Spotsylvania, including : James Puller, who married Mary Duerson(18 Dec. 1816), John G. Puller, who married Catherine Puller(31 Oct. 1816), Betsy Puller, who married George Sale(31 Oct. 1816) and Anne Puller, who married Robert Sale(15 Oct. 1818).

Because they were daughters of James Puller(dec'd), Ann(Nancy) Sale, and Catherine Puller had rights in the estate of John Puller of Culpeper. Robert Sale was undoubtedly the son of Capt. Robert Sale of Caroline County and his 2nd. wife, Sally Broaddus. He was a half-brother of my ggggrandmother, Lucy Ann Sale, who married Thomas Broaddus Puller(a son of Goulder Puller).

I don't have very much information about the younger Robert Sale. From Caroline County tax records, it appears that he lived there for a while but, when he died(16 Nov. 1883), he was living in King William County, near the children of his half-sister, Lucy Ann, who, with her husband, Thomas B. Puller had purchased the old Dabney home, "Seven Springs", about 1822. Whether he had any children by his wife, Nancy(Ann), I do not know; but when he was recorded in the census for King William County, in 1850, he was living with a mulatto woman, named Sally Spurlock, and had a number of children by her.

Eldred, I would certainly be interested in the information you have concerning the Sales, Pullers and their relatives; and I will look forward to your response. I am also interested in the origin of your name, Eldred since my gggrandfather was Eldred W. Satterwhite. Is it possible that we are connected through the Satterwhites?
