Cal....I believe that I am the person with whom you had that "argument" about the wife of William Dunn. I think that I was just having a "bad day," and I was certainly "rambling" without making much sense. I pray that we can just leave it at that and move on.

I BELIEVE that the William Dunn who your records show married Lucy Smith was the known son of the older William Dunn who had married Winifred Waters. If you do not agree with that, however, please let me know. Below is SUPPOSEDLY an abstract of the Will for the above-referenced younger William Dunn, and as you can see, it shows his wife in 1795 was a Diana versus a Lucy:

December 1, 1795 Will Book 504
William Dunn (South Farnham, Essex Co., VA; 21 Oct 1799)
Wife was Diana
Son was John
Daughters were Winney Dunn, Betsy Sullivan, Nancy Croxton,
and Caty Dunn
Grandson was Peachy Wm Smith
Granddaughters were Lucy, Betsy Dunn

It would SEEM that this William Dunn married both Lucy Smith and a Diana Unknown. On the other hand, if you have evidence that it was a different William Dunn who married Lucy Smith, please let me know. Some show the above William Dunn (died about 1795) as William Dunn "III," since his grandfather was supposedly the "first" William Dunn who married Alice Grey/Gray.

Note: There was a Tobias Smith in the Essex Co., VA area, and the given name of "Peachy" also appeared in his Smith family, as I recall. I have not seen any evidence that Tobias Smith was related to Nicholas Smith, but perhaps you have some information on that. In any case, I do not know who the father and mother were of the above grandson of William Dunn who was named Peachy William Smith. Do you have any idea who the parents of Peachy William Smith were?

By the way (and as you probably already know), there was a Cornelius Sale and a Leonard Sale in Wilkes Co., NC in the early-1790s. Do you know if they were part of the same overall Sale family that was in Caroline Co., VA back in the earlier 1700s? Those men in Wilkes County were mentioned in some records with members of a William Brown family, and we are investigating if that specific Brown family was out of the Francis Brown "I" who died in Essex Co., VA in 1691/1692 (whose descendants were in Spotsylvania/Orange/Culpeper Co., VA and also in Caroline Co., VA in the early-mid-1700s). There was also another/second "contemporary" William Brown family in Wilkes Co., NC in the 1700s, and based on several records (plus DNA testing), it seems almost certain that they were out of Francis Brown "I" (DNA "Group 10" at the Brown Genealogy Society DNA testing project). Thanks so much!
