Hello all Salcedos,

The Salcedo (in old times sometimes spelt with a z instead of a c) family originates from an ancient and noble Spanish family called Salazar. The name changed from Salazar to Salcedo in the 13th or possibly 14th C. This took place in the northern province of Viscaya. Your uttermost ancestor was Juan Sanchez de Salzedo. All Salcedos originate from this man.Prior to this your ancestors were called Salazar.

'Juan Sanchez de Salzedo, Prestamero Mayor de Viscaya, hijo mayor legitimo de Lope Garcia de Salazar caso con hija de Hurtado Diaz de Mendoca.

Argote de Molina--Nobleza del Andaluzia. Seville 1581.

Don (Sir) Diego de Salcedo, from Soria in Old Castille, Gentleman of the City of Maganna and Knight of the Order of Santiago wrote a book entitled HISTORIA DE LA CASA DE SALAZAR, Y DE LAS SUCESSIONS QUE TIENNE EN SORIA CON EL APELLIDO DE SALZEDO. This demonstrated that despite the mutations the Salcedos were descended from the Salazars.
