Dear Julie
I read your email concerning the Sages in Somerset. I had a look on the map where the
village of Pill is, but it may be too North
West to be connected to the line of Sages that I am researching. My line of Sages have tracked back to 1827 to a small village of Stanton Wick, a small village South of Bristol.
My difficulty has been not being able to go to the records library in Taunton to have a mooch through their records.
It appears that between 1600 and 1890's there seems to be a family of Sages in most of the small villages South east of Chew Magna and mostly into coal mining.
A William Sage was a sort of rebel who moved to Bristol, got married, had a child and then in 1852 moned North to Wolverhampton.
So I would love to hear whether your father remembers having any relations in any of these distant villages. I have been in contact with other people tracing the Sage family line from Canada to Australia and USA to Coventry and it appears there are quite a few Sages coming from this area.
Best regards
Simon Sage
