Emily or Emeline SAGE of Delaware and Otsego, New York
Quite the story and unfortunately unfinished.
David and Phebe (Clark) Sage of Delaware County, New York started and completed their family of seven children in this county. The children and their birth year: Elizabeth (1822), Hervey E (1824), Frances "Frannie" M (1826), Electa Ann (1829), Orrin C (1835), Emory A & Emily S (1837).
Electa married John Youngman, from England, in 1851 and by 1855 had two children, Charles D and Orrin B. Then tragedy struck and she died two days after her 27th birthday in 1856. She is buried in the McMurdy Brook Road Cemetery in Kortright, Delaware, County. This cemetery is about three miles from where they lived at the time.
Fast froward two years. David Sage and John Youngman have moved their families to Oneonta, Otsego County, New York. There is a report in the May 11, 1858 edition of the Bloomville Mirror is the announcement that, married in Cooperstown, April 22, by Rev. W. G. Quest, Mr. John Youngman to Emily S. Sage, both of Oneonta.
Now comes the problem: By the 1860 census for Oneonta, Otsego County we see John and his family (his wife Adelia A, and two children by Electa - Charles and Orrin). What happened to Emily S? AND, who is Adelia A?
In the 1865 census record for Oneonta John reports that he has been married 3 times (Electa Ann, Emily S and Adelia A?). Adelia will always be recorded as his wife.
I cannot find a thing on Emily after her marriage to John.
Can someone help - please.
Thank you.
